“Rocketman”

Starring Taron Egerton, this movie covers the transformation of Reginald Dwight into Elton John and his climb to fame. If you are someone who absolutely loves watching biographical films, this is absolutely the movie for you.

“But the film owes its success less to shock value than to sheer cinematic inventiveness and Egerton’s total immersion in the role.”

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

This month, Rocketman is available on Amazon Prime. So if you are already a Prime member, you can jump right in and enjoy the movie right away! Get ready to feel inspired by the life journey of one of the biggest names in pop music.

“The Lovebirds”

Who doesn’t love a comedic romance? This new film was meant to appear in the cinemas, but due to everything that is happening in the world, it is available on Netflix to watch right now!

Starring Isa Rae and Kumail Nanjiana, this film has a 86% rating on Google. It covers a couple stuck clearing their names in a murder mystery. This exciting plot alone definitely places “The Lovebirds” in a must-watch category! Who doesn’t love seeing brand new cinema-destined movies for free?

“A comedy about two people who love each other but have fallen into a fatal power duel feels like just the ticket for these edgy, uncertain times.”

Owen Gleiberman, Variety

“Hollywood”

This limited series on Netflix covers post-WWII Hollywood. Starring Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the characters in the show do whatever they can to succeed in showbiz. And with an overall of 4.4 stars total, you know that this show is going to be amazing to watch! One Google reviewer writes of the show “I absolutely fell in love with this miniseries”. While there, unfortunately, may not be a second season because it is a limited series, it is certainly worth a watch!

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”

If you are a big Star Wars fan, you will be excited to know that the most recent installment of the Star Wars movie series is out on Disney+. They were scheduled to release in cinema, however due to the current global situation, they released online earlier than expected to honor the annual Star Wars Day.

“Normal People”

For all our book lovers, this one is a must watch. Whether you hav read Sally Rooney’s Normal People or not, you should definitely give the show a try. The 12 episode series is streaming on Hulu and takes viewers through the journey of Marianne and Connell. What sets this story apart from many others is that it is not a run of the mill happy and cheery love story. It is the story of two young individuals who go through life trying to figure out who they are. The raw and heartbreaking storyline of the show is all about growing up in a world that always seems to be working against you.

“”Normal People” looks and sounds like a teen melodrama about falling in love and getting it on. But more than that, it’s a double-barreled bildungsroman, an empathetic study of two young people coming, together, of age.”

James Poniewozik, The New York Times

“Behind her Eyes”

Netflix’s limited miniseries Behind Her Eyes is another book adaptation of Sarah Pinborough’s 2017 novel by the same title. This one is full of unexpected twists and turns and will definitely keep you on your toes. While at a surface level the storyline may seem like any regular romantic drama involving a love triangle, nothing about this show is basic. One you reach the groundbreaking twist at the of the 6 episode series, you will definitely want to rewatch the whole show a few more times.

“And what begins almost as a romantic comedy finds itself flirting with different genres as it progresses — a bit revenge thriller here, and something else entirely a little later.”

David Bianculli, npr.org

“The Family Man”

The Family Man is an Indian web series streaming on Amazon Prime that follows Srikant Tiwari a TASC agent who works to protect the nation from any forms of terrorism while also keeping his identity a secret from his family for their safety. In the first season of the show, Srikant and JK along with their team try to stop a major gas attack. Despite being a heavy show, the delivery is quite natural and in fact quite comic at times. Witty one liners and comedic relief are sprinkled throughout. Unlike most socio-political shows, The Family Man handles the topic of terrorism and politics maturely.

“Effectively a workplace comedy in scenes likes this, and a domestic sitcom when Sri is at home, The Family Man is deceptively relevant as well.”

Rohan Naahar, Hindustan Times

While the show is in Hindi, Amazon Prime also has subtitles available in many languages.

“Little Things”

Netflix’s Little Things is a must watch for anyone who loves love. The Hindi show revolves around a couple, Kavya and Dhruv, and their relationship. As the title suggests, the story is about the little things in a relationship and in life. Each episode deals with a particular topic that is sure to leave you smiling at the end. What attracts people to this show is its simplicity and relatability factor. From the cinematography to the dialogues to the music, everything about this show is beautifully conveyed and captured. Despite being so closely based on reality, Kavya and Dhruv emerse you in their world, a world you never want to leave.

As always, subtitles are available in various languages.
